"Motherland" (Sicilian: Matriterra; pronunciation: MAH-tree-terr-ah) is the national anthem of Sicily. This song was made by a pop singer named Vincenzo Spampinato, after it was chosen in a competition. It became the region's national anthem in 2003.[1][2]
It was played for the first time in front of a bunch of people at an old theatre on 14 June 2003, by the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra and the Musa 2000 Choir.[3][4]
