The 2024 United States Senate election in New Jersey will be held on November 5, 2024, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the state of New Jersey. Incumbent Bob Menendez, a member of the Democratic Party, is seeking re-election to a fourth term as an independent.[2] He is being challenged by Democratic congressman Andy Kim and Republican real estate developer Curtis Bashaw.
Ahead of the primaries, Menendez was indicted for federal corruption charges in 2023, his second federal corruption indictment.[3] The second indictment cost Menendez support from his party and drew questions over if he would run for another term. A contentious Democratic primary followed between Kim and First Lady of New Jersey Tammy Murphy that was marked by allegations of nepotism and party favoritism towards Murphy. Menendez announced he would not seek the Democratic nomination on March 21 and Murphy withdrew from the race three days later, leaving Kim as the only major Democratic candidate.[4][5]
In the June 4 primary, Kim won the Democratic nomination with 75% of the vote. Bashaw won the Republican nomination with 45% of the vote, defeating Mendham Borough Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner, who was endorsed by former president Donald Trump and his allies. The day before the primaries, Menendez filed to run as an independent.
