Afro fusion (also spelled afrofusion or afro-fusion) is a fusion genre of Afrobeat and Music of Africa with other genres such as, reggae, dancehall, R&B, alternative R&B, pop, soul, hip hop, jazz, folk, rock, etc. The music style was majorly pioneered and popularized by Nigerian artiste, Damini Ebinuoluwa Ogulu aka Burna Boy in the early 2010s, [1] The genre isn't codified [2] as it embodies elements of various genres [3] with it's roots in Afrobeat, [4] The genre gained popularity [5] due to its crossover style which borrows elements of various genres, similar to the Afroswing genre which had gained popularity in the UK, [6] the genre has been recognised by music bodies and digital streaming platforms globally. [7]Burna Boy popularised the term through his music, appealing to audiences at arenas and stadiums on his global tours, [8] and even at the Grammy main stage. [9][10] Afro-fusion is also a dance and musical style that emerged between the 1970s and 2000s.[a] In the same way as the dance style the musical style invokes fuses of various regional and inter-continental musical cultures.[b]
