Alasdair McDonnell (born 1 September 1949) is an Irish nationalist politician in Northern Ireland who was leader of the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) from 2011 to 2015, having served as deputy leader between 2004 to 2010. He was the Member of Parliament for Belfast South from 2005 to 2017,^[1] and also a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Belfast South from 1998 to 2015.^[2] He graduated from medical school at University College Dublin in 1974.
