Aldgate bus station serves the Aldgate area of the City of London, England. The station is owned and maintained by Transport for London and located directly south of Aldgate tube station.
Also known as Minories bus station or lay-by, it was the first dedicated bus station in the City of London,[1] and was formerly a major coach station and trolleybus terminal.
A further provision for temporarily stationary traffic off but very near the public way could advantageously be made at important and much frequented points by the creation of lay-bys for coaches, omnibuses and trolley-buses. The vehicles would thus be temporarily withdrawn from and thus not obstruct the main flow of traffic, while the waiting passengers could assemble (possibly under cover) without either obstructing passers-by or being jostled by them. One such already exists at Aldgate and Minories as a terminus, and we were examining the design for another in 1938 near Southwark Bridgehead.
