Alysson Renato Muotri is a Brazilian geneticist and developmental biologist, and a professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Cellular & Molecular Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, where he directs the UCSD Stem-Cell Program.[3] His research focuses on the evolutionary genetics and neuroscience of brain development, using human and "Neanderthalized" brain organoids developed from stem cells.[4][5] He is one of the most scientifically impactful Brazilian researchers in the world.[6]
