Craig Mackinlay JP (born 7 October 1966) is a Conservative Party politician and businessman.[2] From 2015 to 2024, he was the last Member of Parliament (MP) for South Thanet.
Initially a member of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), Mackinlay served as deputy leader of UKIP from 1997 to 2000 and as acting leader of UKIP in 1997,[3] before joining the Conservative Party in 2005.[4]
In the 2015 general election, Mackinlay was elected to the House of Commons in South Thanet a Conservative candidate in a highly contested fight with then-UKIP leader Nigel Farage.[5] As an MP Mackinlay sat as a backbencher, being a member of the Brexit Select Committee and the Common Sense Group in parliament.
In 2024, Mackinlay revealed he had undergone a quadruple amputation following an infection of sepsis.[6] He retired at the 2024 general election, but was nominated for a life peerage in the 2024 Dissolution Honours and will join the House of Lords as a crossbench peer.
