Critical Resistance is a U.S. based organization with the stated goal of dismantling what it calls the prison-industrial complex (PIC).[1] Critical Resistance's national office is in Oakland, California, with three additional chapters in New York City, Los Angeles, and Portland, Oregon.[2]

Critical Resistance has promoted the idea of abolishing the prison system from its first conference in 1998. It considers the prison-industrial complex to be a response to societal issues such as: homelessness, immigration, and gender non-conformity.[3] Since 1998 it has taken part in numerous campaigns and projects to oppose prison building and to promote prisoner rights.
