Edward John Comport Argar (born 9 December 1977) is a British politician who has served as Shadow Secretary of State for Justice and Shadow Lord Chancellor since July 2024.^[1] He most recently served as Minister of State for Prisons, Parole and Probation from November 2023 to July 2024 and as Chief Secretary to the Treasury in October 2022. A member of the Conservative Party, he previously served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice from 2018 to 2019, Minister of State for Health from 2019 to 2022, and as Paymaster General from September to October 2022. Argar was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Charnwood from the 2015 general election until the seat was abolished for the 2024 general election. He subsequently stood for election in the newly formed Melton and Syston seat in which he was elected.^[2]
