The Evening Standard, formerly The Standard (1827–1904), is a local free newspaper in tabloid format, with a Web site on the Internet, published in London, England.

In October 2009, after being purchased by Russian businessman Alexander Lebedev, the paper ended a 180-year history of paid circulation and multiple editions every day, and became a free newspaper publishing a single print edition on weekdays, doubling its circulation as part of a change in its business plan.[3] Dylan Jones became editor in June 2023.[4]

On 29 May 2024, the newspaper announced it would go from daily to weekly print publication later that year, after sustaining losses deemed not sustainable.[5][6]
