Farah (Pashto/Dari: فراه) is the capital and largest city of Farah Province in western Afghanistan. It is located on the Farah River, close to the border with Iran. It is one of the largest cities of western Afghanistan in terms of population, with about 1.5 million people living in its urban area. Farah was part of the Greater Kandahar region until made into a separate province by the Afghan government.
