Gjon Kastrioti[a] (? – before July 7, 1439[1]) was an Albanian feudal lord[2][3] from the House of Kastrioti and the father of Albanian leader Gjergj Kastrioti (better known as Skanderbeg). He governed the territory between the Cape of Rodon and Dibër and had at his disposal an army of 2,000 horsemen.
"(The document is dated July 7, 1439, and is written in Latin in a clear and regular script. The document is about the settlement of an old account that two merchants, Pjetër Pantell and his nephew Filip de Silva, owed to the Albanian lord Gjon Kastrioti. We are talking about an amount of 123 gold ducats. In the document, Gjon Kastrioti is mentioned as dead and Gjergj Kastrioti is announced as his legitimate heir).
Shqip mund ta përkthejmë kështu: «Falë hirit të Zotit, Gjon Kastrioti zot arbëror.»" (The letter in question ends with a sentence which, alone, tells us a lot. All those who have studied even a little bit of Russian in ex-[Comunist] Albania will be perfectly able to understand it: We can translate it ... as follows: "By the grace of God, Gjon Kastrioti, Albanian lord)".[1]
(By the grace of God, Ioan Kastriot, Albanian lord). This precise passage was left out of the documentary collection "Djuradj Kastriot Skenderbeg i Arbanija u XV veku" (1942), by Serbian historian Jovan Radonić.
