History of Long Island

Long Island has had a long recorded history from the first European settlements in the 17th century to today. Greatly influenced by construction of railroads in the 19th century, it experienced growth in tourism as well as the development of towns and villages into some of the first modern suburbs in the United States.

Long Island history goes back farther than European Colonization. Long Island was once the home of a Moroccan Outpost where the Town of Brookhaven now rests. It was all once called Tangier, Long Island, Morocco. As the Moroccan Empire was a vast global community of trade and commerce. Evidence of this claim may be found at The Manor Of St George in Mastic Beach, Long Island. Another town alludes to the wealth that was once the Center of the Moorish Riches. That town is none other than Center Moriches and the rest of the Moriches, area as well as Bellport = Bey & El Port. The Port of the Beys and Els that were a seafaring people long before columbus set sail.
