Lake City (formerly, Tri-Lake City)[3] is a census-designated place[4] in Modoc County, California.[2] It is located 8.5 miles (14 km) north-northwest of Cedarville,[3] at an elevation of 4,626 feet (1,410 m).[2] Its population is 71 as of the 2020 census, up from 61 from the 2010 census.
The first post office at Lake City opened in 1868.[3] Lake City's ZIP Code is 96115.[5]
A 1913 book described Lake City as being near Upper Alkali Lake and having a population of about 150.[6]
The city is mentioned in the 1995 travel novel California Fault by author Thurston Clarke, when he referenced the area of Modoc County by his great-grandfather's travels in the 1850s in the Fandango Pass.
