The Commando Regiment (Arabic: فوج المغاوير, romanizedFawj al-Maghaweer) is an elite light infantry and is considered the first special forces regiment in the Lebanese Armed Forces.[3] The regiment, which was founded in 1966, is also a member of the Lebanese Special Operations Command and is the largest of the Lebanese special units. An individual member of the regiment is a maghwār (Levantine Arabic: مَغْوَار, or commando, derived from غَارَ ghāra = "he raided".)
