There is a large community of Nepali people in Malaysia, recruited from Nepal, foreign workers and their families. In 2020, there were over 382,000 documented Nepali workers in Malaysia - the majority of which were working in the manufacturing sector.[4]

With 700,000 employed in plantations and factories, Malaysia has the highest number of Nepali migrant workers and the earnings they send home makes up 40 percent of Nepal's total overseas remittances.
