Oshnavieh (Persian: اشنويه)[a] is a city in the Central District of Oshnavieh County, West Azerbaijan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district.[5]

At the 2006 census, its population was 29,896 in 6,572 households.[6] The following census in 2011 counted 32,723 people in 8,149 households.[7] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 39,801 people in 10,667 households.[2]

The city is populated by Kurds who speak Sorani.[8]

Oshnavieh County is bordered by Naqadeh County to the east, by Piranshahr County to the south, by Urmia County to the north, and by Iraqi Kurdistan Province to the west.[9]
