Peacock TV, LLC, doing business as Peacock, is an American over-the-top subscription streaming service owned and operated by Comcast through its entertainment division NBCUniversal. The service launched on July 15, 2020,[3][4][5] and was named after the NBC logo. Peacock primarily features shows and film content from NBCUniversal brands and other third-party content providers (such as the WWE and Hallmark Channel), including television series, films, news, and sports programming. Peacock initially debuted in free, "Premium", and "Premium Plus" plans, with the free version offering a limited selection of content, and Premium Plus offering ad-free video on-demand content and streaming of NBC affiliates; since January 2023, the free tier is no longer available as an option to new customers unless their subscription lapses. As of January 2025, Peacock had 36 million paid subscribers.[2] After an agreement with Meta Platforms in 2023, Peacock is included in Meta Quest VR headsets.

In recent years, Peacock has positioned itself as a major player in the competitive streaming landscape by investing heavily in original programming and acquiring exclusive streaming rights to major sporting events. Notably, Peacock has become the exclusive U.S. streaming home for WWE Premium Live Events such as WrestleMania and Royal Rumble, further attracting a dedicated fanbase.

Additionally, Peacock offers next-day access to current NBC shows, which has become a key selling point for cord-cutters who want to stay up to date without a traditional cable subscription. Popular original titles like Bel-Air, Poker Face, Dr. Death, and The Traitors US have also helped the platform build a distinct identity.

Peacock’s integration with Meta Quest VR headsets marked a strategic move into immersive streaming experiences, allowing users to enjoy content in virtual environments. The platform continues to innovate by bundling with other services, exploring ad-supported monetization strategies, and expanding its international presence in select markets.

As streaming habits evolve, Peacock remains committed to enhancing user experience, expanding its content library, and competing through a blend of legacy media power and digital-first strategies.
