Richard Russell Waldron (1803-1846) was a purser[1] "and special agent"[2][3] in the Wilkes Expedition, together with younger brother[4] Thomas Westbrook Waldron (consul). Several landmarks were named after him or his brother. After the expedition was completed Waldron enjoyed some popularity and influence in Washington, D.C.
