Shane O'Neill, 3rd Earl of Tyrone[a][b] (18 October 1599[2] – 27[2]/29 January 1641)[3][4][5] was an Irish nobleman and soldier. He was the youngest son of Hugh O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone,[5] and was known by the Spanish as "El conde de Tyrone".[4]

If he died, the Earldom was to pass first to Shane's cousin Conn, then to his illegitimate cousins, the sons of Art mac Baron, then to the descendant of Shane the Proud who should be nearest in blood.
