The Tadamon massacre[1] took place in the vicinity of Othman Mosque, Tadamon neighbourhood of the Syrian capital of Damascus,[2][3] on 16 April 2013 during the Syrian civil war. Soldiers affiliated with the Syrian Armed Forces, specifically Branch 227 (Damascus branch) of the Military Intelligence Directorate,[2] killed at least 41 civilians, and is suspected to be more than 280 civilians who were taken to one of the isolated neighborhoods of Damascus and executed one after the other in a mass grave that had been prepared in advance.
It was first reported in an investigation published in English by the American New Lines Magazine in coordination with Syrian Media collective Al Jumhuriya, in Arabic,[4] and a report covering the investigation by the British newspaper The Guardian'.[2][5] Syrian intelligence officer Major Amjad Yousef (Arabic: أمجد يوسف), who was filmed committing the massacre, was arrested shortly after the publication of the footage showing his involvement of the massacre in 2022 by the Syrian government.[6]
