Wikipedia:WikiProject Languages/Language names in Ruhlen (1987)

Language names listed in Merritt Ruhlen, A Guide to the World's Languages, Vol. 1: Classification (Stanford, CA: Stanford Univ. Press, 1987), pp. 301–378.

Copied from the info file compiled by Kazuo Morishima, Lawrence Reid, Saranya Savetamalya, David Stampe, Ryo Stanwood, and Fumio Usami, March 1988.

Note: the info file was compiled by hand. It contains typos, which have perhaps not all been corrected; those which have been corrected are marked (°). Typos in Ruhlen itself are noted below but have not been corrected.

Original description: A complete genetic classification of the world's languages arranged in terms of 17 independent phyla. Languages are given in capitalized lower-case letters, groups in all capitals. Languages and groups preceded by + are extinct. The number of languages in each group is shown as [extant+extinct] after the name of the group. The tree is condensed, with ungrouped siblings listed together as branch ".0".

To make proper links for Wikipedia, the word "language" was added to all names apart from Western Desert Language.
