Witham (/ˈwɪtəm/) is a town and civil parish in the Braintree district, in the county of Essex, England, with a population (2011 census) of 25,353.[1][2] It is twinned with the town of Waldbröl, Germany. Witham stands between the city of Chelmsford (eight miles or 13 kilometres southwest) and Colchester (13 mi or 21 km northeast), on the Roman road between the two. The River Brain runs through the town and joins the River Blackwater just outside.
