Deep Purple is een Britse hardrockband. De groepsnaam is afgeleid van de jazzklassieker Deep Purple, het favoriete nummer van de moeder (of de grootmoeder, naargelang de bron) van gitarist Ritchie Blackmore.

Jon Lord startte in 1968 met een band onder de naam "Roundabout" met gitarist Ritchie Blackmore, maar veel succes had hij niet en al snel vertrokken de drummer en de bassist. Via twee mensen die manager van de groep wilden worden kreeg hij Nick Simper als bassist en Ian Paice als drummer. Rod Evans sloot zich bij de groep aan als zanger. Met het overkomen van Roger Glover en Ian Gillan van Episode Six naar Deep Purple slaat de groep een andere weg in. Het succes komt met het album Deep Purple in Rock. Deep Purple zette hiermee haar naam als hardrockgroep en was met groepen als Led Zeppelin en Black Sabbath een van de pioniers van deze stijl.

"In the End" is de derde single van rockband Linkin Park en het achtste nummer van hun met platina bekroonde debuutalbum Hybrid Theory De single "In the End" werd uitgebracht in 2001. Het was oorspronkelijk geschreven als een gedicht door leadzanger Chester Bennington en werd later omgezet tot een volwaardig nummer voor het album. Het is in de meeste landen hun succesvolste single. Ook wordt het vaak gezien als hun bekendste nummer, en als het nummer dat hun muziekstijl het best omschrijft, een melodische tussenspel van de zang van Chester Bennington en de rapvocalen van Mike Shinoda. Het thema is gecentreerd rondom het falen van een persoon. Het wordt symbolisch gezien voor de beëindiging van een relatie. "In the End" is een van de langste nummers van Hybrid Theory en volgens critici een van de beste.

"Who's Next" is het vijfde studioalbum van de Britse rockband The Who. Het album werd in 1971 opgenomen in Londen en uitgegeven in datzelfde jaar. Gitarist-songwriter Pete Townshend wilde in navolging van zijn populaire rockopera "Tommy" een nieuwe rockopera schrijven, genaamd Lifehouse. Omdat de overige bandleden van The Who niets van het plotverhaal begrepen, werd het plan de nek omgedraaid en werden alleen de nummers opgenomen. Hieruit ontstond "Who's Next".

Het album is in muzikaal opzicht op bijna alle fronten vernieuwend. Het album varieert in zowel rustige nummers als echte hardrocknummers. Verder is het erg bijzonder dat er verschillende nummers zijn met een stuwende synthesizertrack op de achtergrond ("Won't Get Fooled Again" en "Baba O'Riley"). In dat laatste nummer overigens, wordt Dave Arbus ingeschakeld om het op te leuken met een vioolsolo. Dit wordt door zanger Roger Daltrey tijdens concerten geïmiteerd met een mondharmonica. Veel van de nummers van "Who's Next" worden tijdens concerten gespeeld.

John Alec Entwistle (Londen, 9 oktober 1944 – Las Vegas, 27 juni 2002) was een Engelse bassist, songwriter, zanger en hoornspeler, die vooral bekend is geworden als bassist van de Britse rockband The Who. Hij wordt beschouwd als een van de grootste, meest gewaardeerde en meest invloedrijke rockbassisten aller tijden, vooral omdat hij een agressieve en leidende rol had in de nummers die hij speelde. Hij beïnvloedde zowel generatiegenoten en jongere bassisten onder wie Les Claypool, Steve Harris, Lemmy Kilmister, Geddy Lee, Phil Lesh, Noel Redding, Billy Sheehan, Chris Squire en Mike Watt.
