Yr Office of Communications gelwir fel rheol wrth y talfyriad, Ofcom (Swyddfa Gyfathrebiadau) yw'r awdurdod rheoleiddio ar gyfer telathrebu yn y Deyrnas Unedig, sydd â phersonoliaeth gyfreithiol. Fe’i diffiniwyd yn 2002 gan Ddeddf y Swyddfa Gyfathrebiadau 2002.^[1] Fe’i crëwyd ar 1 Ebrill 2003 a daeth i rym ar 29 Rhagfyr 2003.^[2] Daeth ynghyd hen swyddogaethau Oftel, y Comisiwn Teledu Annibynnol (Independent Television Commission), y Comisiwn Safonau Darlledu (Broadcasting Standards Commission), yr Awdurdod Radio (Radio Authority) a Chomisiwn Cyfathrebu Radio (Broadcasting Standards Commission).
