Sparganium ye'l nome d'un taxón allugáu na categoría taxonómica de xéneru, qu'en sistemes de clasificación como el del APG II del 2003^[1] ye l'únicu xéneru de la familia Sparganiaceae, siendo n'otros sistemes de clasificación como'l de Judd et al. (2007^[2]), el del APWeb,^[3] el de Kubitzki (1998^[4]) y el más modernu APG III (2009^[5]), un xéneru de la familia Typhaceae sensu lato, nesti casu compartiendo la familia col so xéneru hermano Typha, polo que podría dicise que na actualidá la familia Sparganiaceae foi abandonada. El taxón ta formáu por yerbes perennes acuátiques emerxentes rizomatosas, con fueyes dísticas bifaciales (na so vezu bien paecíes a les totoras), con cabeces globoses unisexuales por inflorescencies (les cabeces masculines enriba, les femenines embaxo), de numberoses flores diminutes polinizaes por vientu. Distribuyíes en tol mundu.
