Arsen Borysovych Avakov (Ukrainian: Арсен Борисович Аваков, IPA: [ɐrˈsen bɔˈrɪs.ɔ.ʋet͡ʃ ɐ.ʋɐˈkɔu̯]; born 2 January 1964) is a Ukrainian politician of Armenian descent who served as the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine from 2014 to 2021.[3][4] He was the Chairman of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration from 2005 to 2010, a member of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine from 2007 to 2008 and from 2014 to 2021 and a member of the Verkhovna Rada from 2012 to 2014. Outside politics, Avakov was a member of Euro 2012 Organizing Committee in 2007 and a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine. He was awarded the Honored Economist of Ukraine in 2007.
