The Aws tribe descend from the ancient tribe al-Azd, a branch of the Qahtanite Arabs[4] Aws and Khazraj were known as Banū Qayla (بنو قيلة  [ˈbænuː ˈqɑjlæ]) in pre-Islamic era.[1]
