Benjamin Jowett (/ˈdʒoʊɪt/,[3] modern variant /ˈdʒaʊɪt/;[4] 15 April 1817 – 1 October 1893) was an English writer, tutor, administrative reformer in the University of Oxford, theologian, Anglican cleric, and translator of Plato and Thucydides.[5] He was Master of Balliol College, Oxford.[6]
