Chen Ping (陈平, died c.November 179 BC[1]) was a Chinese politician who served as a chancellor in the early Western Han dynasty. He was an advisor to Liu Bang (Emperor Gao), the founding emperor of the Han dynasty. He played an important role in helping Liu Bang overcome his rival, Xiang Yu, in the Chu–Han Contention (206–202 BC).
- ^ Volume 13 of Zizhi Tongjian indicated that Chen Ping died in the 10th month of the 2nd year of Emperor Wen's reign, which corresponds to 5 Nov to 3 Dec 179 BCE in the proleptic Julian calendar. In the modified Zhuanxu calendar used during this era, the 2nd year of Emperor Wen's reign starts from 5 Nov 179 BCE and ends on 23 Nov 178 BCE in the proleptic Julian calendar.
