The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (shortly CUHK–Shenzhen or CUHK–SZ) is a research university in Longgang, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. CUHK–Shenzhen was officially founded on 11 October 2012, and approved by the Ministry of Education of China on 16 April 2014.[2]

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), whose campus is located in Sha Tin, Hong Kong, defines its relationship with CUHK–Shenzhen as "one brand, two campuses". Both are supervised by the same Senate, sharing the same academic structure and curriculum design. [3] As Chinese law prohibits foreign institutions, including those in Hong Kong, to independently establish educational institutions in mainland China,[4] CUHK–Shenzhen is legally a joint venture between CUHK and Shenzhen University as the local partner.[5] Graduates from CUHK–Shenzhen are awarded degrees of CUHK, the same as those awarded to CUHK graduates (but denoting "Shenzhen" in the main text),[3][6] as well as a graduation certificate approved by the Ministry of Education and conferred by CUHK–Shenzhen.

As of 2023, more than 9,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students are studying at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.[7] Its long-term goal is to recruit 11,000 domestic and international students, 7,500 of whom will be undergraduate students and 3,500 Masters or PhD students.
