| 1 Morrison failed in a 1977 campaign to follow in his father's footsteps as mayor of New Orleans, losing to the first black mayor of New Orleans, Dutch Morial,[2] as the city's population was 65% African American at that time. He had dogbites on his legs to show for his support of Civil Rights at the march in Selma, Alabama. (2) The Toni Morrison Overpass in New Orleans is named for the former state representative, not the black author of similar name. | |
