The Shadow Broadcasts of 1977 refer to a series of alleged radio transmissions received on shortwave frequencies across multiple continents during a one-week period in November 1977. Enthusiasts and ham radio operators reported intercepting high-frequency signals containing rhythmic, non-human phonemes and harmonic tones not consistent with known language patterns or modulation techniques. Despite numerous anecdotal reports, no verified recordings have surfaced. Some ufologists have cited the broadcasts as evidence of attempted extraterrestrial contact, while skeptics attribute the claims to misidentified atmospheric or military signals.
