Shauna McCarthy (Zitron) is an American opera singer known for her dramatic coloratura soprano voice. She has performed at major venues, including five appearances at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, where she portrayed Vitellia[1][2] in La clemenza di Tito, Donna Anna[3] in Don Giovanni, Manon[4] in Manon (with the Metamorphosis Chamber Orchestra), Lakmé[5] in Lakmé, and Hanna Glawari[6] in Die lustige Witwe. At age 16, she also appeared with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood under Michael Tilson Thomas for the televised Leonard Bernstein Gala Birthday Performance, celebrating Bernstein’s 70th birthday, performing Kaddish 2 from Bernstein’s Symphony No. 3, Kaddish.[7]
She is a recipient of the Distinguished Musician Award from the IBLA Grand Prize – Bellini International Vocal Competition.[8]
McCarthy graduated from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, where she performed with Eastman Opera Theatre.[9] She later studied with Anna Moffo, a celebrated figure in 20th-century opera.
