Ealdorman (/ˈɔːldərmən/ AWL-dər-mən or /()ˈældərmən/ (ay-)AL-dər-mən, Old English: [ˈæɑɫdorˌmɑn])[1] was an office in the government of Anglo-Saxon England. During the 11th century, it evolved into the title of earl.
