Elliott B. Broidy (born 1956/1957) is an American businessman, venture capitalist, and former political fundraiser.[2][3] From 2005 to 2008, he served as finance chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC). He later became a main donor of Donald J. Trump and the Republican party. He is also a film producer.[4]
Broidy began his career in finance at Arthur Andersen before managing investments for Glen Bell, founder of Taco Bell, and later founded Broidy Capital Management. Broidy co-founded Markstone Capital Partners, raising $800 million, and faced significant challenges which ultimately led to Markstone's closure. Broidy also served in various roles, including chairman of ESI Holdings and on the board of trustees for the Los Angeles Fire and Police Pension Fund. His political involvement increased post-9/11, leading to significant fundraising efforts for the Republican Party and his appointment to the Homeland Security Advisory Council.
Broidy's later career was marked by controversies. In 2009, he was convicted of a misdemeanor in a public corruption and bribery case.[5] From 2017 to April 2018 he was deputy finance chairman of the RNC. He resigned in April 2018, after The WSJ reported that he had been a party to a non-disclosure agreement with former Playboy Playmate Shera Bechard.[6] In October 2020, Broidy pleaded guilty to acting as an unregistered foreign agent working for Chinese and Malaysian interests. He sought to lobby the highest levels of the U.S. Government to deport a Chinese dissident living in the US, and tried to arrange meetings for a PRC Minister with high-level officials during his visit to the US, all while concealing the foreign principals he represented.[7][8] He was charged as part of a federal probe into efforts to influence the Trump administration to stop investigations about a 1MDB Malaysian state fund fraud.[9] On January 20, 2021, Broidy was pardoned by President Donald Trump.[10]
