First Triumvirate (Venezuela)

Cristóbal Mendoza

The First Triumvirate (1811–1812) was appointed by the First National Congress of Venezuela as the provisional government of the First Republic of Venezuela. Composed of Cristóbal Mendoza, Juan Escalona, and Baltasar Padrón, its members rotated the presidency on a weekly basis.[1] It was succeeded by the Second Triumvirate.

This government declared Venezuela's independence from the Spanish Empire and promulgated the country's first constitution in 1811, officially naming the nation "Confederación Americana de Venezuela".
