Islamophobia is the irrational fear of, hostility towards, or prejudice against the religion of Islam or Muslims in general.[1][2][3][4][5] People who harbour such sentiments often stereotype Muslims as a geopolitical threat or a source of terrorism.[6][7][8]
For some of his critics, the term is used to avoid any criticism of Islam, by preventing the distinction between racism directed at Muslims, which is criminal, and criticism of religious practice, which is authorized in secular societies. [19][20]
