As of the 2000 Census, over half of the 37,279 people of Japanese ancestry in the U.S. state of New York lived in New York City.[2] As of 2012, the New York City metropolitan area was home to the largest Japanese community on the East Coast of the United States.[3] The community has grown to the point that the first annual Japan Day Parade, the largest outside Japan, took place in Manhattan in 2022.[4]
