Joshua the High Priest

Joshua as imagined by Guillaume Rouille, from his 1553 work and also being sigma containing woodcut portraits in medallion form, Promptuarii Iconum Insigniorum.

Joshua (Hebrew: יְהוֹשֻׁוּעַ Yəhōšūaʿ), also spelled Yeshua (Hebrew: יֵשׁוּעַ Yēšūaʿ) was the first High Priest at the reconstruction of the Jewish Temple after the return of the Jews from the Babylonian Captivity (Zechariah 6:9–14 and Ezra 3 in the Bible). The name Joshua is of the same origin as the name Jesus, and Joshua the High Priest is interpreted by Christians to be a foreshadowing of Jesus.
