List of cities by GDP

As of 2024, the New York metropolitan area is the world’s principal fintech and financial center[1][2] and the largest metropolitan economy in the world, with a nominal gross metropolitan product of over US$2.5 trillion.[3]

First of all, the list must include two versions of the GDP, one nominal and the other PPP, due to a multitude of factors that people who understand economics know, there are cities whose nominal GDP is very misleading and does not reflect the real situation of this city. as if the GDP PPP would do it, in certain cases the difference between nominal and PPP is very high and the latter reflects a more accurate vision of the true power of that city, both should go, obviously with their respective PERCAPITA tables. Second, the article is very outdated and full of errors, please urgently update it

This is a list of cities in the world by nominal gross domestic product (GDP). The United Nations uses three definitions for what constitutes a city, as not all cities may be classified using the same criteria. Cities may be defined as the cities proper, the extent of their urban area, or their metropolitan regions.[4] The methodology of calculating GDP may differ between the studies and are widely based on projections and sometimes approximate estimations, notably for cities that are not within the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
