R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital (RGKMCH) is a public medical college and hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.[2] It was established in 1886 to ensure self-sufficiency in medical education and services in the colonial era. It was under the University of Calcutta from 1916 to 2003 and affiliated to West Bengal University of Health Sciences when it was established in 2003.[3] R.G.Kar Medical College, Kolkata is not only one of the premiere institutes of modern India but one with a rich heritage too. Brainchild of Dr. Radha Gobinda Kar, it was the first non government medical college in Asia.[4] The college is a co-educational institution that is recognized by the NMC and affiliated with the West Bengal University of Health Sciences.[5]
