Reytory Angola

Reytory Angola^{[note 1]} (c. 1626 – 1689) was a Black woman from New Amsterdam. Brought to the colony as a slave of the Dutch West India Company, she received conditional manumission in 1644. In 1661, she became the first Black person to petition a legislature as an individual when she successfully requested the manumission of her adopted son.
