Sabzevar (Persian: سبزوار;[5] )[a] is a city in the Central District of Sabzevar County, Razavi Khorasan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district.[6] The city is approximately 220 kilometers (140 mi) west of the provincial capital, Mashhad, in the northeastern part of the country.

At the 2006 census, its population was 208,172 in 57,024 households.[7] The following census in 2011 counted 231,557 people in 70,422 households.[8] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 243,700 people in 74,757 households.[4]

Sabzevar is the commercial center for an agricultural region producing grapes and raisins. There is some small-scale industry, for food processing, copperware, and electric motors. Through the old bazaar of Sabzevar fresh, dried, and preserved fruits and vegetables are exported. Sabzevar is connected to Tehran and Mashhad by road. Sabzevar Airport provides domestic flights.[9]

It suffered a flash flood in April 2020.[10]
