The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) is the primary law enforcement agency of San Diego, California. It was established on May 16, 1889.[5][6] The department employs 1,731 officers and 601 civilian staff. It covers 343 square miles of service area with a budget of over 537 million dollars. It is the second-largest municipal police department in California, after the Los Angeles Police Department.
