Sanrio Character Rankings

The Sanrio Character Rankings are an annual popularity poll in which users vote for their favourite Sanrio character. The popularity poll has been conducted every year since 1986.^[1] Previously conducted via Sanrio's official monthly newspaper, the Strawberry Newspaper, the ranking is now conducted online.^[2] From the official Sanrio Character Ranking 2025 website FAQs: "The Sanrio character ranking is an annual, popularity contest for Sanrio characters and this year marks its 40th year! The 90 characters included have been chosen after careful consideration from various perspectives."^[3] The Character Cinnamoroll has been incredibly popular in the rankings in recent years, having won seven out of eight times between 2017 and 2024. Hello Kitty topped the list for the first time in 1998 and remains in the all-time lead, having topped the list fifteen times sa of 2024.^[1]
