Smoking in Brazil

Brazil has some of the strictest smoking laws in South America. Smoking in Brazil is forbidden in all enclosed public spaces except for specifically designated smoking areas.[1] Since 15 December 2011, Federal Law 12546 (article 49) forbids smoking in enclosed spaces in the entire country, including restaurants and bars.[2]

In Brazil, the legal age for sale and consumption of tobacco is 18. Tobacco advertising is restricted to posters in shops,[3] and is banned on television and radio. All cigarette packs contain advertisements against smoking and government warnings about possible adverse health effects of smoking.
