The assault on Sorubay District, Afghanistan in July 1985 was a significant combined operation by various Mujahideen groups against the DRA. The Mujahideen forces, numbering around 1,000, launched a well-prepared assault, initially targeting and capturing security outposts around Sorubay.[2][1] After seizing the district center, the Mujahideen were forced to retreat due to heavy DRA artillery and air support, suffering significant casualties.[2] The conflict showcased the Mujahideen's ability to temporarily seize and control key areas despite the DRA's superior firepower and reinforcements.[2][1]
