Torkamanchay (Persian: تركمانچای)[a] is a city in the Central District of Torkamanchay County, East Azerbaijan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county[4] and the district. It was previously the capital of the former Torkamanchay District of Mianeh County,[5] and the administrative center for Barvanan-e Markazi Rural District.[6] The capital of the rural district has been transferred to the village of Khvajeh Ghias. A suburb of Mianeh, it is well known for the Treaty of Turkmenchay of 1828.[citation needed]
