Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Syntax differentiation in editing window

This page in a nutshell: Differentiating reference syntax and other text in the editing window, specifically through use of unique font colors, may be beneficial for Wikipedia editors on the basis of accessibility and ease of navigation. Should such a function be added to Wikipedia? If so, should it be turned on by default for all users? Should other kinds of common syntax be uniquely colored as well?

There is a wide consensus that:

the text editor have a function to color syntax specifically associated with references
this functionality be turned on by default for all users
other forms of syntax be uniquely colored as well (e.g. headers, Wikilinks, infoboxes, etc.)?
